Within the framework of the ERASMUS+ RETEACH Project, “Reforming Teacher Education Programmes in Mongolia towards Green and Digital Transition,” the National Capacity-Building Training on Curriculum Development and Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods is being held in Ulaanbaatar from 2–6 June 2026. Otgontenger University serves as the project coordinator and works in partnership with the Ministry of Education of Mongolia, the General Authority for Education, the National Institute for Educational Research, Transilvania University of Brasov” (UNITBv), the University of Palermo (UNIPA), CESIE – (Italy), Mongolian National University of Education, Eastern Regional Branch of the National University of Mongolia” (NUM), Khangai University, and Darkhan College. The Mongolian National University of Education (MNUE) is hosting this training event. The project aims to introduce European teacher education policies, innovative teaching approaches, and best practices in continuous professional development into the Mongolian context. A series of capacity-building trainings has been organized throughout the project. Previously, two training sessions were conducted in Palermo, Italy, focusing on green and digital transition in teacher education, European Union best practices, and practical approaches for their implementation. The current training at MNUE is particularly significant as it focuses on pedagogical approaches and implementation strategies for the revised teacher education programmes developed under the project. More than 80 participants, including teacher educators who will deliver the updated programmes, are attending the training both in person and online.
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including:
- Prof. J. Batbaatar, Rector of the Mongolian National University of Education;
- Prof. N. Enkhzaya, Rector of Otgontenger University;
- H.E. Ms. Ina Marčiulionytė, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Mongolia.
The training is facilitated by experts from European partner institutions:
- Prof. Daniela Popa and Prof. Codruta Jaliu from Transilvania University of Brașov, Romania;
- Prof. Elena Mignosi, Prof. Antonella D’Amico, and Ms. Eliana Danzi from the University of Palermo, Italy;
- Mr. Federico Mallei and Ms. Rita Quisillo from CESIE, Italy.
Over the five-day programme, these experts will deliver training sessions and guide Mongolian teacher educators in curriculum implementation and innovative pedagogical practices.
- As a result of the training, participants will develop competencies to:
- Revise teacher education curricula using competency-based curriculum design principles aligned with the Green and Digital Competence Framework for Teachers;
- Integrate the GreenComp and DigComp frameworks into programme learning outcomes and course structures;
- Design student-centred, digitally supported, and sustainability-oriented teaching and learning activities;
- Develop competency-based assessment methods and quality assurance indicators for the revised curricula;
- Strengthen the practicum and mentorship components of teacher education programmes.
- The training represents an important milestone in enhancing the quality, relevance, and sustainability of teacher education in Mongolia and in supporting the country’s green and digital transition agenda.
